Folks take a minute to learn about Fireweed. This plant could be of huge interest to the Western United States right now. Due to its ability to quickly establish a root system to draw nutrients from soil it has been used for centuries to reestablish vegetation in fire scarred habitats. It can even be used to clean up oil spills for the same properties. As an edible and medicinal, the flowers can be made into jelly and the stems can be stripped and the inside eaten raw or cooked. It can even be made into a medicinal tea using the dried leaves. This is a wonderfully useful plant.
